Swamp Ape IPA by the Florida Beer Company is a relative newcomer to the Central Florida beer landscape. Swamp Ape is an imperial/double IPA that comes in at 10% abv. Last night I had every intention of sampling one from the Beer Living fridge. But it just didn’t work out.
As I’ve mentioned before, the beer living household tripled in size in January. When our son left the Marine Corp, he and our daughter-in-law and two grandkids moved in with the Beer Goddess and myself. After an adjustment period by everyone, things are working out pretty well. Well, except for the beer situation.
With four beer drinking adults now raiding the fridge, its hard to keep the quality beer stocked up. I typically would move a ‘good beer’ or two from the cupboard to the fridge in the morning with intentions of drinking them in the evening. But the good beers seemed to always disappear before I got home. I started calling the fridge Houdini. So next I started buying cheap beer to fill the fridge with (not literally of course). Then I would hide the really good bottles behind the pickles and tabasco sauce. No luck. But at least when I got home I had cheap beer to drink with my pickles.
TIred of buying expensive beer and only being able to drink the cheap stuff that no one else drinks, I now am working on plan number 3. I don’t keep any beer in the fridge. When I get home at night I put one or two bottles in the fridge ( I do however have a new hiding place behind the …oops…better not say here). Plan 3 has been working out relatively well. Except when I get home late. Then I have to go to plan 3A, which is placing the bottle in the freezer for quick cooling.
Last night was a plan 3A night. Plan 3A works well, as long as you remember to take the beer out of the freezer.
