If I lived in Sanford, Florida in 1881, I know what store I would have hanged out at. Whoever thinks that the modern mega super store is a recent invention, check out this advertisement for Hoefer’s Bakery, Confectioner & Toy Store circa 1881. Talk about one stop shopping. Toys, Candies and Beer…it’s a party waiting to happen. The more I think of it, it’s brilliant. The younguns’ could be browsing the toys, the older younguns’ could be browsing the candies, and the grownups could be drinkin’ the lager beer. I bet no one ever wanted to leave the store….
