Don’t Pound the Monkey

Before your collective minds go  in the gutter, it is not that kind of pounding. And its not even that monkey. I am of course  talking about Golden Monkey from Victory Brewing (Downingtown, PA).

On the way home from work last night I swung by a Publix (a large grocery  chain primarily in Florida) to pick up some items for dinner. Of course anytime I wander into a store that sells beer, I feel an immense urge to check out the beer aisle. The usual mega brews are always there of course, but each Publix store tends to have a slightly different selection of ‘craftesque’ beers. Last night I spotted a beer that I had never seen before in any Publix. Golden Monkey, from Victory Brewing.  Golden Monkey is a Belgian Tripel style beer.  I’m a huge fan of this style of beer. Of course the six pack jumped into my hand and I headed for the checkout lane.  The 6 pack  of 12 ounce bottles cost $11.29 which may be the most expensive six pack that Publix sells. But in my opinion this beer is worth the price. This beer comes in at 9.5% ABV.  It may not be the best tripel I’ve ever had, but its pretty darn tasty. And the fact that I can get it in a grocery store saves me a trip to the specialty stores.

Victory Brewing has this to say about Golden Monkey:
Strong and sensual, this golden, Belgian-style ale glows. The richness of German malts and Belgian yeast are tempered by a sparkling approach and overall light body. Abundant herbal, fruity notes make this one to savor.

And from the labelon the bottle:
A magical, mystical Monkey whose golden soul glows with the wisdom of ages. This warming, flavored ale is rich in the spirited tradition of Belgian-inspired brewing. Our Golden Monkey is both playfully delightful and profoundly satisfying. Exotic spices from the East round out this global journey to joy. Get on board. This Monkey is bound for glory!

Be careful my friends. Great taste and 9.5%  make for a dangerous combination. Don’t pound this monkey…..
