Beer Living’s salute to Oktoberfest continues. Today’s take on the beer style is from Harpoon Brewery. Harpoon has two breweries, one in Boston and one in Windsor, Vermont. This is also the first Octoberfest beer of the season. Thats right, Oktoberfest spelled with a C instead of a K. I’m not sure if that is a New England thing or not. After all, I’ve never seen a New Englander use the work wikked either.
The beer pours a beautiful amber copper burnt orange color . The Harpoon website calls it a Garnet Red. I’ve never called anything Garnet in my life so I’ll stick with my descriptive amber copper burnt orange description. Topping off the nice color is a rich creamy head. As far as taste, its a nice balance of malt and hop. On the sliding malt hop scale, I would put the needle a smidgen closer to the hop side. But still a very good take on the style. ABV isn’t on the label but the company website claims 5.5% abv. The six pack cost me $8.99 which I felt was a good price for the quality of beer your getting.
